Advertising Assistant Resume

Advertising assistant is a person who assists the executive account manager in an advertising agency or a media firm. This is like the entry point of the advertising career and people apply for this position as an intern when they are studying so that they will have all the necessary experience about the job when they complete their studies. Advertising assistant is a low level employee who assists the job functions and administration in an advertising agency and this job includes a number of duties such as account planning, research, production, and helping the creative department. Assisting an advertising manager or account executive able the assistant to get on job training and learn the skills that he will need later in this career. These assistants perform various tasks depending upon the type of the department they are working in i.e. marketing, sales, technical or financial.

When an advertising agency hires assistants, they are required to perform a number of duties such as:

  • Helping out the executive account manager or project manager to develop a campaign and assisting them in the regular office stuff.
  • Helping the account executive to prepare the annual budget sheet for the company or a long term project.
  • Making presentations for an upcoming meeting or conference and assisting the executive staff to deliver the presentation properly.
  • Research on the marketing strategies and when the strategic department is making new plans, helping them by sharing his views and analyzed figure and facts.
  • Assisting the clients with any inquiry or issue and referring them to the righteous staff member.
  • Preparing the regular reports on an ongoing project and presenting that report in front of the administration and clients.
  • Once the project is completed, arranging for a management client meeting to deliver the project.

Their salaries depend upon different factors such as the size, type and location of the advertising agency in which they are employed. Companies who work with digital advertisement methods such as commercial and social media publicity, they pay higher salaries whereas the agencies which create billboards, sign boards and flyers, pay slightly lesser salaries. Also companies in the European countries take care of their employees in a well mannered way whereas companies in countries like India and Iran doesn’t provide good pay check to their employees. In spite of these factors, the advertising assistant earns about $40000 per year. You know that this is an entry level job and company hires fresh staff on this post so although the salary is not that good, you know that you didn’t spend too much time in the company yet if you want higher salary. Once you have started your work at this job, there are thousands of chances for you to go up in the career. As you gain more and more experience, one day you can end up at the project or department manager’s position. That position pays a lot more than the assistant’s post but you have to stick to the company and continue your work even on lesser salary.

Key elements to include in an advertising assistant resume:

  • Divide the advertising assistant resume into several different parts and keep the information of each section separate from others.
  • Start the resume with personal information section in which you are supposed to provide your personal information like name, religion and date of birth and contact information such as phone number and mail address.
  • Below the information section, it’s place to put an objective or a career summary if you like. Create an objective with your own words and it would be so much better if you just close your eyes and think what you would be doing if you get this job. Put all those goals and plans in the objective paragraph but keep it short though.
  • In the experience section, you provide all the job related work history of yours. Start with the most recent job and write job title, name of the company and duration of your employment there.
  • In the education section, start with the most recent of professional degree and go back up to graduation. Here you need to state name of the institution, degree of course and passing year. If you have attended extra classes during that time, discuss that too.
  • Special skills needed for the job such as familiar with media technologies, knowledge of handling an media related equipment or ability to multi-task are the skills that will make you stand different among other applicants. If you have any of them, discuss that too.

Elements not to include in your advertising assistant resume:

  • Don’t add too many skills or abilities. Just a few one to give an overview of your capabilities.
  • Don’t make it too long and lengthy, two pages are more than enough for an advertising assistant resume.
  • Although advertising includes graphic designing but that doesn’t mean you are allowed to make a fool of yourself by making a multi color resume. Stick to simplicity and easy assessable format.
  • Don’t ever mess up your resume by putting too personal information like hobbies or number of kids. Stay professional and stick to necessary stuff only.
  • There is no need to provide your references in the first place unless you are asked to. Keep this for later when you will be called for an interview.
